Chinese Art II. five Dynasties and Northern Sung Fernand Hazan, Paris 1961 Printed in France Tudor Publishing Co. New York
Very small Book filled with images of art from the five Dynasties
From first page "The fall of the T'ang Dynasty was followed by fifty years of civil war and anarchy. Nevertheless painting flourished, even before its splendid flowering under the Sung dynasty. It is true that very few original paintings have come down to us, but thanks to later copies and contemporary descriptions we can make out the broad outline.
Portraits continued in the old tradition, both everyday life and historical scenes being represented in a firm, assured style in which the smallest detail is never omitted.
Animals in their natural habitat are seen through new eyes, and with the Taoist revival there is a new feeling for nature to which the artist draws closer..."
